THE HISTORY OF NOHO FUMC
Originally known as “The Community Church” NoHoFUMC was founded in 1892 and held it’s first services in a bunkhouse located on Lankershim Boulevard. Later the services were moved to the only school house in town. The church became known as “North Hollywood Church” in 1927 and in 1944 the old church was sold and the present property on Tujunga Avenue was purchased. The building was completed in time for the Easter Sunday service in 1949 with 1750 people in attendance at dual services in the Sanctuary and the Social Hall.
The Stained Glass Windows are nationally recognized and the subjects were approved on January 28, 1957. The Twelve Apostles were chosen for the upper windows. Old and New Testament figures, symbols and accounts were chosen for the lower windows. The lower windows and one of the upper pair of windows were installed in 1958. If you would like to read more on our beautiful windows please ask in the church office.
There is a printed book titled “Scene Through A Window” that is available for purchase in the main office. The cost is $20.
